Gable Endies

Colin Farquharson (Chairman)
Colin is a founder member and chairman of the Trust. A Mo fan since the late 60’s, he was born in the West Midlands and is also a life-long West Bromwich Albion fan. After leaving Montrose Academy Colin trained as a psychiatric nurse at Sunnyside Royal Hospital and later studied psychotherapy at the University of Dundee. For the last 12 years he has specialised in addictions and now practices in Aberdeen.

“Nobody could ever accuse me of being a glory hunter, following the Mo and the Baggies! I guess it’s true that your team chooses you then they’re with you for life. I certainly can’t remember a time when I wasn’t passionate about Montrose and despite their recent lows I know I always will be. Loyalty is a value I hold dear and sadly there’s too little of that in football these days. The trust movement is all about putting football back at the heart of the community where it belongs. That’s the main objective of our Trust – we want to bring ordinary people on board and make them feel their views are valued. It’s time the punters on the terraces claimed back their Clubs so come and join us and turn criticism into participation!”

Dave Scott (Treasurer)
Dave has been the Treasurer of the Trust since it was inaugurated. He lives in South Queensferry but his parents stay in Montrose so he still gets to Links Park from time to time. After leaving Montrose Academy Dave went to Robert Gordon’s in Aberdeen and then trained as an accountant. Dave works in Edinburgh for an American software company

“I’ve been going to Links Park now for over a quarter of a century and have seen Montrose FC slip from being a team that were afraid of nobody with regular attendances of well over 1,000 to what we have now. I believe the Trust can, with the support of its members, play an important role in the future of Montrose FC by giving the opportunity for views, opinions and concerns of the ordinary supporter to be heard by people who run the club. In the past too much control has been in the hands of too few. I believe the Trust can build bridges with the local council, business and the wider community, restoring the town’s faith and pride in the club.”
David Smith (Secretary)
David is a life-long Montrose supporter and is a founder member and Secretary of the Trust. He grew up locally and apart from his studies at Aberdeen University and a short teaching post in Crieff he has spent most of his life in and around the town. David wrote the official history of Montrose FC. He is currently head teacher of a local primary school.

“I’ve taken an active interest in the supporters trust movement since it’s conception and was elected the first secretary of the Gable Endies Supporters’ Trust in 2003. I regard the trust as having a crucial role to play in the future well-being of senior football in the town. The Club has lacked democracy and accountability for a number of years and has consequently become “divorced” from the community. The trust movement is designed to re-engage supporters’ involvement in the running of their Club and is the only way ahead for the Gable Endies.”
Scott Cargill (Membership Secretary)
Scott has been a member of the Trust since the initial meeting held at Links Park in November 2002. He volunteered to sit on the Trust committee and is now the membership secretary. Scott worked at the Premier Brands factory in Montrose until its closure and then went on to study at Angus College and The University of Abertay. After achieving his degree he has now worked for the Department of Work and Pensions for the last 10 years.

"I have supported Montrose for almost all my life, nearly 40 years, the highlight of which was ‘The Legends’ 95 yard bullet into the top right corner of the Beach End goal against The Hibees in 1975. I was lucky, in that the Montrose team I grew up watching was the best team we have ever had and being a Montrose supporter was a privilege. It seemed to me that the whole town was inside Links Park at times and there was a real community feeling about the place. But as the "good times" faded away so did the support and the community feeling. I firmly believe that a Supporters’ Trust is the way to get the club back as a community focal point. To do that we need the whole hearted backing of all supporters. Join the Trust-it is YOUR club."

Rory Hadden (Special Projects)
Rory was born and brought up in Montrose and is a long-suffering Mo fan! He attended Montrose Academy and then travelled extensively, working in England, Italy and Spain where he honed his linguistic skills. He is currently nearing the end of teacher training and is looking forward to getting back into the employment market (so he says!).

“I have been a life-long Montrose fan, despite spending several years living abroad for work purposes. I have seen the good and bad side of Montrose over the years. Football has changed dramatically over the years, not always for the better and I feel it is now more important than ever that small community clubs like Montrose have as much supporters’ input as possible.”

Tracy Park (AGM/Elections Co-ordinator)
Tracy is a Board member of the Trust and is responsible for organising general meetings and ballots. She has been a regular at Links Park since her teens when she and her family moved into Montrose from the surrounding countryside. She is ‘Front of House’ Manager of a local hotel having worked her way up the ranks since leaving college with an HNC in Hospitality Management.

“I became a member of the Trust as I thought it would be an ideal way of putting something back into the Club and surrounding area. I believe that the Trust can provide a valuable support to both Montrose Football Club and the Town.”
